Vintage 1950's grinder, Abu-Shamat soap grinds, laser etch paper board boxes
2015
My family’s factory and others that produced green soap were part of a recent introduction to laundry detergents used for washing machines. In this piece, I reinvent small detergent boxes that can be used for clothing and marble floors. Next to the piece is a vintage manual grinder, which I used to break up the soap. The design of the package is modern and simplified. Its outer design contains bilingual information both in Arabic and English. It describes the content and the manufacturer of the product. The emblem, product name, and instructions are laser cut into brown paperboard. The texture and raw color of the box advertises this product as environmental and user-friendly.
